News, Moss | Large influx at the crisis center in Moss: – Sad and disturbing

--

General manager Arne Beate Hansen at the crisis center in the Mosse region says that they have had a large increase in the number of inquiries in the past year.

– In 2023, we had a 42 per cent increase in daily calls from the previous year, she tells Moss Avis on Monday afternoon.

During last year, there were also a total of 80 people who made use of the crisis centre’s accommodation facilities. At the crisis center, both you and possibly your children can come and stay if you are experiencing a difficult phase.

The crisis center in Moss has seven resident rooms of different sizes, with a shared kitchen and living room. As part of the housing offer, you get a safe place to stay, good conversations and guidance, as well as help with practical things if you need it.

– Sad and disturbing

In 2023, 17 people were killed by a current or former partner or lover, according to the annual report to the Norwegian Institute for Human Rights. The first months of 2024 have also been characterized by an abnormally high number of murders, where the accused in several of the cases has been the partner or former partner of the victims.

– What thoughts do you have about all the events?

– It is sad and disturbing, says the manager at the crisis center in Moss.

Although the police have not reported that such incidents have occurred in the marsh district, Hansen says that what has emerged in the news is causing concern among the population here as well.

– We see that the need is great. There are many who approach and express concern.

The statistics at the crisis center show that the violence perpetrated has become worse than it has been in the past, according to Hansen.

– This also increases the fear among people, she explains.

– Get in touch if necessary

It’s Easter time and for many that also means coziness and fun with friends and family. But regardless of whether Easter is spent at home in Moss, a trip to a cabin in the Norwegian mountain home or a trip to warmer weather, the holiday does not necessarily only offer positive aspects.

– At Easter there can be more parties and more alcohol. This can also lead to more violence, says Hansen.

Therefore, Hansen believes it is important to remind that the crisis center is always open and that it is a low-threshold offer.

– Get in touch if you have a need. Nobody should be afraid to contact us, you can also contact us anonymously, emphasizes the daily manager.

– The crisis center in Moss has a manned phone 24 hours a day and accepts inquiries from anyone who wants advice, or wants to discuss a concern they have about violence. Either for her own part or for others, she adds.
