Debate, Railway | Station location, once again

--

Reader’s letter This is a debate entry, written by an external contributor. The post expresses the writer’s views.

We can now read that a new railway through Larvik has not been included in the national transport plan. It was not unexpected, since Larvik municipal council has opted for the worst and most expensive alternative for the location of a new railway station and route through the city centre.

By placing the station at Elveveien/Lågen, you will:

– avoid demolishing a significant part of the center of Larvik,

– let go the uncertainty with what one can/should do with properties in the city centre,

– save the city center for at least 5 years with heavy construction traffic.

– provide good access and a large parking space for buses and taxis,

– provide decent access and a large parking area for cars, (Most of Larvik municipality’s residents have to use one form of transport or another to get to the station regardless of where it is placed.)

– save at least one billion on the railway budget,

– provide expansion options if needed in the future. (THAT can hardly be said about a location at/in Kongegata.)

We must remember that a railway station is a natural part of a traffic terminal. This has not been taken into account in the plan drawn up for Sentrum station.

It amazes me that no politician has countered any of my approx. 25 newspaper articles in this case. What could THAT indicate?
