(Nordstrands Blad) On the first weekday after Easter, the City Environmental Agency starts the annual spring cleaning of the city’s streets. Dust, gravel, rubbish and dog poo that have accumulated after the winter must be removed.
From Tuesday 2 April, the city will be cleaned street by street until May 17, writes the Bymiljøetaten in a press release.
Tows many cars every year
If your car is not moved when they sweep and clean the streets it may be towed away. If you park on public land, you have a duty to check whether new signs have appeared at least once a day.
– If the city is to be clean, we depend on there being no parked cars when the street is to be washed. Towing cars takes a lot of valuable time, and it is also expensive and tedious for the car owner. Therefore, remember to check the signage where you park at least once a day, urges road manager Joakim Hjertum.
He says that the intention when they put up the signs is that they should be able to clean the street within that time.
– Unfortunately, we experience delays every single year. Most often this is due to many wrongly parked cars, says Hjertum.
Every year, many cars are towed in connection with spring cleaning. Where it is practically possible, the cars are moved to other nearby streets, but where this is not possible, the cars are driven to the towing area at Alfaset.
– Towing cars is something we absolutely want to avoid, primarily because it causes major delays in the work. Moving the car yourself is better for the car owner and better for us. Many people think that towing cars is something we speculate on to make money, but that is not true. The municipality does not make money from towing, says Hjertum.
Check when they come to you
In the centre, west and north, spring cleaning starts on Tuesday 2 April. This applies, among other things, to our districts. Here you can check when your street will be cleaned.
Streets with parking will be separated at least 24 hours before the start, writes the Bymiljøetaten in the press release.
The Norwegian Environmental Agency informs that it may happen that streets that are signposted are not cleaned as planned, either due to delays in the work or the weather. These streets will then be re-signposted later.
Although there may be delays, all streets will be cleaned in time for 17 May, says Hjertum.
