– Our people are in place, but we will need help from the fire service to move the tram, says Jan Rustad, press officer at Sporveien.

When Nettavisen was on the scene shortly after the derailment, the tram was planted a good distance into the pavement. The tram has been heading in the direction of Jernbanetorvet.

No one is said to have been injured.

According to what Nettavisen’s dispatcher could see, the tram derailed in the middle of a bend. There were no track changes or other disturbances in the track that we could see.

Press officer Rustad says that it is too early to say what has caused the tram to derail, and that it may take time before the tram is removed.

– This is what we call a full derailment. The fire brigade is on its way, but the way I’ve been told it will probably take some time, says Rustad.

The police state at 2.18 pm that they will start an investigation into the accident.

Expect delays

Technical personnel from Sporveien are on site and estimate that rectification will take a few hours. This is reported by the police.

– This creates problems for traffic flow, and rerouting is implemented, writes police operations manager Tor Gulbrandsen.

As the tram now blocks both lanes, the accident will affect all tram lines that run between Stortorvet and Jernbanetorvet. Travelers must therefore expect delays.

– There will be delays and diversions, says Rustad in the tramway.

It is lines 17, 18 and 19 that are affected by the derailment.

– All these lines have been cut off in the middle, but they continue to run on separate sides, says Øveraas.

Travelers on the relevant lines via Stortorvet must then either get off at the stop at Jernbanetorget or Stortorvet, and go to the next stop.

– So it might be a good idea to ask yourself if you have to use the tram – if you are going via the center of Oslo. Buses and subways run as normal. We don’t know how long this will take, but it probably won’t be solved in five minutes, says Ruter’s press officer, Benjamin Øveraas.
