For the vast majority of people, a normal Thursday is a normal working day – this also applies to Prince William (41).
This Thursday the Prince of Wales was out on an official mission, where he visited Fistral beach in Newquay.
– The invitation was never sent
There he may have apparently broken one of the royal house’s rules.
Pictures show him signing the cast on the arm of a small boy. Both the boy and the prince have big smiles on their faces while the latter takes hold of the pen.
– Does not have permission
But the British royal house has previously stated on several occasions that they do not have permission to sign anything, writes Svensk Damtidning.
– I am not allowed to sign, it is just one of these rules, Princess Kate (42) has stated when she was asked to give a signature to a child, writes the news website. Instead, she chose to draw a small drawing for the hopeful.
King Charles (75) is also said to have rejected the request.
– Sorry, but I don’t have permission to do that.
According to the Daily Express, the British royal house is not allowed to give signatures, as there is a risk of signatures being forged.
Broke the rules: – Understandable
It is not known whether this week William actually wrote his name on the plaster – or whether he did as his wife did and chose to draw a small drawing for the young boy.
Se og Hør’s royal house expert Caroline Vagle says that the royals generally do not sign autographs.
– Traditionally, royals do not sign autographs. This is a custom that goes back a long way, and is probably primarily about ensuring that a royal name should not be misused, she explains.
– But in certain cases they make exceptions, and it is up to each and every one of the royals – and the situation they are in. I also seem to see a trend in the younger guard not being so keen on being strict about everything possible label, compared to before.
– The disappointment was great
In Norway, too, there are apparently rules for signatures from the royal family.
Se og Hørs Ruben Pedersen (29) has himself experienced being rejected when he politely asked for a signature on his cast, that time from Crown Princess Mette-Marit.
Can be met on one condition
– I had operated on my foot and was therefore at Ullevål hospital for a short period. Crown Princess Mette-Marit happened to be opening a learning and coping center at the same time. I obviously had to bring that with me, so mum and I went down to the main entrance in the hope of catching a glimpse of Mette-Marit, he tells Se og Hør.
The incident took place in 2005, when Pedersen was 11 years old.
– A bit modestly, I asked if she wanted to sign my cast. The disappointment was great when I heard in resounding southern dialect that the royals unfortunately cannot sign anything. I left the meeting disappointed, but proud: I had, after all, met a royal, and got several minutes alone with her.
Pedersen further shares that the disappointment of not having received a signature from Mette-Marit herself had subsided over the years – and in the end was almost forgotten.
Come in a Kidman dress
– This story seemed to sink into the ground for me until it was mentioned at our morning meeting. Not only did all the details come back, but I also found that NTB’s photographer has captured the moment. I’m going to print out that picture and hang it up at home, even if I look like an anemic, blond Harry Potter.
