(Aftenposten) On X, several people write that the woman is in a vulnerable situation and is being exploited both in the series, and now in Piers Morgan’s TV show.

When the series “Baby Reindeer” launched on April 11, it quickly climbed to become the most streamed series in the world. Since then, many have allowed themselves to be engaged and provoked.

“Baby Reindeer” is about a male comedian who is pursued by “Martha”, a woman who claims to be a lawyer in London. The story is based on series creator Richard Gadd’s own experiences, and Gadd himself plays the lead role.

In “Baby Reindeer”, “Martha” is portrayed as morbidly obsessed with Gadd. She follows him around, shows up at his shows, waits outside the house and sends him thousands of emails, messages and voicemails.

In social media, many have hunted and speculated about who the real woman is.

Considering legal action

A few days ago, a woman came forward under her full name and with a photo in several British media. She says she was the real “Martha”, after her name had circulated on social media.

Since “Baby Reindeer” was launched, the woman has experienced harassment on social media and calls from strangers saying nasty things, according to the Scottish newspaper Glasgow Live. She is now considering taking legal action against Netflix and Gadd. She says, among other things, that it is not true that she has been in prison, as is portrayed in the series.

She also says that she lives in fear and has received death threats.

– All traces of a normal life I had are gone, she says to The Daily Record.

Glasgow Live has spoken to a lawyer who specializes in defamation and privacy. He believes she may have a potentially good case if she can show that the show’s claims are false and have caused significant harm.

On Thursday, she appears in the often controversial TV show of the high-profile journalist Piers Morgan. In social media, many believe that the woman is now being exploited again.

Binoculars mentality

Several have criticized Gadd for having created the series in a way that makes her easily recognisable, despite the fact that her name and some details have been changed. He himself has come out and asked people not to try to find out who she really is.

– Please don’t speculate on who any of the real people might be. That’s not the point of the series, Gadd wrote on Instagram.

Several people have questioned why it has to be specified that it is a true story and started a debate about the voyeur mentality in the true crime genre.
