“Nothing ever happens at Winger”. How many times have we not heard that? It is of course a subjective opinion. An impression and often based on the individual’s unique interests, often based on memories from the past. And that’s okay. But let’s stop now and then and reflect a little on that.

My claim is that it is a very misleading opinion. There is actually a lot going on in Kongsvinger and the region in general. The weekend’s many, large and very well-attended events are fresh proof of this. Audience and 80s favorites Bonnie Tyler and Smokie created a stir on Friday. 2,300 spectators saw the concert in Kongsvingerhallen. In Solør, there was a spring party at Flisa with hundreds of visitors to both the free dance show and the town centre.

Saturday was the day for the vast majority of interests. The Glåmdal market attracts hundreds of people interested in motoring every year. In addition, two evenings in a row at Vinger Blues & Rocklubb’s concerts in Kongsvinger were full this weekend. It was clothes swap day in Gågata this weekend, which attracted lots of people. 1,740 paying spectators were in attendance when KIL Toppfotball crushed Start 3–0 at Gjemselund. And those who like locally produced stage art had every opportunity to experience this, when Kulturskolen’s Oz musical had its premiere in Rådhus-Teatret on Sunday. This is also shown on both Monday and Tuesday.

A rainy Sunday in April also featured the popular and traditional Baksjøløpet, which once again had everything from pros to low-threshold exercisers on the list of participants. Sunday was also the day when the Trond Erics concert, which marked the band’s 40 years on stage, went off. This was long sold out and people flocked to Eidskog Town Hall on Sunday.

This was just some of what was on the menu this weekend. A very special weekend, you might think. Yes, in a way. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of activities on offer for everyday life as well. A good example is the volleyball team that trains every week, where the lower age limit is 60 years. There are a wealth of different sports activities, interest associations, the hiking areas are almost endless and on the cultural side there are opportunities in everything from the stage to the gallery. And the offers can be adapted to everyone. Without any scientific support whatsoever, we would actually believe that the Kongsvinger region has an exceptionally good, varied and diverse range of activities. We should appreciate that.

The message here is therefore; stop complaining that nothing is happening. It actually does, so test out the offers that are available.
