27-year-old Kendji Girac, whose original name is Kendji Maille, was rushed to a hospital in Bordeaux.

He was previously reported to be in danger, but is now out of danger, although he is still hospitalized.

Police are still investigating the cause of the shooting, but it is now believed to be an accident.

Kendji Girac himself has told the ambulance staff that he accidentally fired a gun that he allegedly bought in a thrift store.

– This is not a gang-related shooting. It was an accident. He played with the gun and hit,” a man named Emilio, believed to be Kendji Girac’s uncle, told AFP.

Kendji Girac rose to national prominence when he won the major TV singing competition ‘The Voice’ in France in 2014. Since then he has sold millions of albums and his hits ‘Color Gitano’ and ‘Andalouse’ have been played hundreds of millions of times on YouTube.

– We are all shocked. We love him. He is a great guy, incredibly friendly, always smiling, always ready to help, says French TV host Cyril Hanouna.

Kendji Girac was scheduled to perform in Marseille on Friday for the arrival of the Olympic flame in France ahead of this summer’s Paris Olympics, but due to the accident and his condition, he will not be able to perform.
