TV profile Bethenny Frankel (53), best known for being part of “Real Housewives of New York”, shares on Instagram that her mother Bernadette Birk has passed away, aged 73.
“My mother died of lung cancer. She was complex, isolated and had pain and inner demons. She was the most amazing woman, who left her abusive home as quickly as I ran from mine. I was born on her birthday,” she writes at the beginning.
Further in the post, Frankel writes that the mother had lived a hard life which consisted of both an eating disorder, alcoholism and abuse.
“Despite the fact that she was not equipped to be a mother, she loved me and I have fond memories of her.”
Taking the secret with him to the grave
The reality star has previously been open about the fact that she had a difficult childhood, and writes that she experienced things far too young that no young child should have to endure.
“This made me strong, tough, and someone who is able to handle anything. The universe gave me the most beautiful daughter, and my childhood gave me the inspiration to break out of the pattern.”

Although Frankel had a complicated relationship with her mother, she made contact with her when she had her daughter Bryn (13), so that they could get to know each other.
She writes that she finds comfort in all the love and support she has received from close friends and her daughter.
In conclusion, she encourages everyone to contact, call or give a hug to someone with whom you have a complicated relationship.
