Denim on denim is making a comeback

--

You may remember the photos of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake both dressed in denim from the 2001 American Music Awards.

Spears herself has referred to the outfit as “tacky”, and that it started as a joke.

The look is not new. Far from there. Already in the 50s, denim on denim was introduced with names like Elvis Presley.

Flying off the shelves

But it was admittedly only in the 70s and 80s that the trend really gained a foothold.

2000s fashion continues to trend, and although it has ridden the trend image like a mare for the past couple of years, there is no indication that this is about to blow over.

– I have been a big fan of the Canadian tux for a long time, says fashion profile Janka Polliani.

– Denim on denim is an everyday favorite with me, whether it’s a shirt and trousers, a skirt or a matching jacket, she says.

– The trend has been a bit off and on, but we have seen it at several screenings recently. For example at Louis Vuitton where elements from the western trend were in focus in Paris.

– I think it’s particularly cool that the trend is back because it’s something that the vast majority of us have in our wardrobe, concludes Janka.
