MALMÖ / OSLO (See og Hør): On Thursday evening, the Norwegian Eurovision hope Gåte took to the stage in Malmö Arena, and finally performed the song “Ulveham” for eager fans.
– Many years of therapy required
For the first time, Europe can vote on the Norwegian contribution, and they are dependent on that to get to Saturday’s final. While the fans have the opportunity to vote, the presenters Petra Mede (54) and Malin Åkerman (45) guide the viewers through the halftime shows.
And one of these features is dedicated to a legendary Norwegian, in the context of Eurovision – namely the late Jahn Teigen.
– Bye
A touching video of several of Teigen’s past contributions rolled across the screen for all of Europe to see.
– We say goodbye to the wonderful Jahn Teigen, says Petra Mede, and says that a number of other songs that did not perform very well will be played.
Several of those contributions came from Norway, and it could be heard from the audience that they were warmly received.
Teigen was for a number of years an icon within Norwegian music, but was also at one point a big name in Melodi Grand Prix and Eurovision. Among other things, he participated in a staggering 14 MGP finals, and progressed to Eurovision three times.
He is perhaps best remembered in Europe for the song “Mil etter mil”, which he brought to Eurovision in 1978. With a split jump and red trousers, Teigen tried to charm his way into the people’s hearts – but ultimately ended up in last place, with zero points.

Last attempt
Teigen did not let herself be intimidated, and took part in the MGP again already two years later. It was nevertheless only in 1982 that he made it to Eurovision again with the song “Adieu”. Then he stood on stage with his girlfriend at the time, Anita Skorgan (65).
He had a little more luck that time, and came 12th in a competition with 18 participating countries.
The last time Jahn Teigen was seen in Eurovision was in 1983. With “Do re mi” he once again tried to charm Europe, and got his best position: Out of 20 participating countries, he ended up in 9th place.
In the years that followed, he tried several times in MGP – the dream of winning Eurovision probably hung high in Teigen’s mind. Nevertheless, it was never to be like that, and in 2005 he was seen for the last time as a participant in the Norwegian final.

The ballad “My Heart Is My Home” became Teigen’s swan song, securing him fourth place that year.
