Thomas Giertsen (52) is known both as a comedian, voice actor and producer, and has excelled for several seasons in the TV series “Helt Perfekt” – to name a few.
It’s no secret that Giertsen is very interested in food and wine, and he has, among other things, the podcast “I know nothing about wine” together with Merete Bø.
– It’s laughable
He recently guested on the podcast “Fysen”, where he shares his interest. Here it emerges that he has spent much of his free time working for free in kitchens at restaurants to learn more about cooking in particular.
– I was the one who asked, the first time was at Palace (restaurant, journ. note) (…). I had time off from Easter to the summer, so I thought that now I want to spend my time on something I’m interested in. And then I asked if I could be an apprentice there, he says in the podcast.
He also says that he has been an apprentice and worked for free at several restaurants over time.
The comedian says in the podcast that he has great respect for everyone who works in such a kitchen, and points out that there is a big difference between being a home cook and a restaurant chef.
Calls out another step: – Nervous
– So at the beginning you feel a bit clumsy, plus chefs are not that chatty and I am very chatty. And then I’m keen not to make mistakes, so I ask a lot, he says.
Se og Hør has been in contact with Thomas Giertsen’s manager Monica Nygaard Nytorpet, who states that they have no comment beyond what appears in the podcast.
Having learned and developed his skills in various restaurant kitchens, Giertsen reveals that the food at home has also been influenced.
– It affects the food a lot, but at home I am keen on cooking at home. I’ve tried and practiced fine dining dishes before, but I think it’s a bit silly to keep doing it at home, so now I really want to cook some good “homie” food.
The 52-year-old reveals that he often ends up with French dishes in his own kitchen.
