The relationship with “Friends” star Courteney Cox (59) and rocker Johnny McDaid (47) has not always gone smoothly.

Cox reveals in the podcast to actress Minnie Driver (54) that she was dramatically wrecked by McDaid five years ago.
– It was really intense. We broke up with each other in a therapy class, she says, adding that it came as a complete surprise to her.
Cox and McDaid, a member of the rock group Snow Patrol, were in couple’s therapy to work on setting boundaries between them. Instead, he ended it with her then and there.
– I just: “What? We are engaged!”. The shock was so great, she confides.
– It hurt a lot.
Cox clarifies that McDaid had not planned to surprise her in that way.
– He just had such a hard time in the relationship. There was so much we had to deal with and he needed to protect his own heart.
The breakup lasted a while. During that period, she worked a lot on herself. Among other things, she went to therapy alone to gain insight into how she herself had contributed to the situation.
Feeling better
Today, she is glad that McDaid did what he did. She believes they have emerged stronger from the crisis. Because they got back together, even if they haven’t re-engaged.
– It takes a lot of courage to end something so full of passion, says Cox in the podcast, which is reproduced by CNN.
– Often it is easier to just stay put and let things slide and go – and find excuses, because you are too afraid. But once you are tough enough to make decisions and endure the pain it entails, you can get through it.
McDaid has not commented on his girlfriend’s confidences.
Cox was married to actor David Arquette (52) from 1999 to 2013. She got together with McDaid shortly after the breakup.
