We have tested Philips Flip & Juice – a blender and juicer in one – Test

The case has advertising links that provide VG with income. The editors prioritize independently of this. Switch

At Tek you will find cases with advertisement links, where you can either buy the products we have mentioned or compare prices. We believe this is relevant information for our readers.

Which products Tek will write about, and what we will write about them, is chosen by the journalists and no one else. But it is also important that you know that if you click on such an ad link for price comparison at Prisjakt, or buy a product after clicking through to a store from one of our articles, Tek makes money. These advertisement links are always marked with “ad link”.

It is important to emphasize that when we mention products at Tek, it is because we think it is journalistically interesting. No one can buy publicity in our cases.

In tests or product guides, the main rule in VG is that we buy or borrow the product. If it is not practically possible, we base the review on product samples we have been sent. If so, we will inform you about which product and why.

We have tested the Philips Flip&Juice.

No matter how stately one lives, the vast majority of people have limited space in the kitchen. It is therefore no great surprise that kitchen appliances appear that can do more than just one task. Flip&Juice is such a device and is the first machine we have tested that can both dazzle and juice.

Combining these two functions is basically a good idea. It saves space and costs less than buying two separate machines. We also believe that buying a dedicated juicer is too much for many people.

On paper it sounds like a super device, but how well does it actually work in use? We intend to find out.

But first, what’s the deal with the bouncy name? Have they perhaps stolen the stage name of an obscure 90s rapper? No, the name really only describes what you do before juicing, namely “flipping” the container. The blender purées, the juicer part centrifuges and separates the fibre.

A lot of work for little juice

The concept of Flip&Juice is simple, but it still takes quite a while to get comfortable with the machine. The first obstacle is the various parts that must be put together in the right order, which is not particularly intuitive. Fortunately, it comes with a practical little instruction manual which is of great help.

The vegetables must then be cut into smaller pieces so that the ingredients are properly pureed before juicing – the manual recommends 2 x 2 cm. And when you fill the container with ingredients, it is important not to have too much, and in addition add a little water so that the mass is smooth and fine. When it’s time for flipping, remember by all means to close the spout at the front, otherwise it will leak – we speak from experience.

Eventually you get used to the routine, but it still feels a bit cumbersome. On normal juice machines, there are often also many parts to deal with. The difference, however, is that you can make much more juice once you get started. At Flip&Juice you only get one glass of juice at a time. We suggest about 2–3 dl, depending on the type of fruit or vegetables. The way Flip&Juice is designed means that it is also not possible to add fruit or vegetables along the way.

There are also other differences that speak in favor of a separate dedicated juicer. On a regular juicer, the pulp will be extracted into a separate container. On Flip&Juice, it remains on the inside of the filter. This means more dishes and more spillage. During the washing up, we were also very frustrated with the filter part, which we found extremely difficult to dismantle. At first we had to use dish gloves to get it loose, and even then it was stuck. Fortunately, eventually it became looser.

Another big disadvantage is that the juice gets diluted. In order to blend the ingredients properly before juicing, you have to use water, and this produces less concentrated juice than with a traditional juicer.

When it comes to the amount of juice, you also get more out of a normal juicer, at least if it is a good model. We compared it with an Omega slow juicer where we extracted 238 grams of juice with 350 grams of orange, while on Flip&Juice we extracted 215 grams with the same amount. We naturally tested without the use of water, but dazzled for an extra long time.

Better blender than juicer

Not the best juicer, but a far better blender. Actually, we think that the model has been wrongly marketed. This is not a combi machine, but a blender with an emergency juicer for those who need to juice on rare occasions.

In addition to being able to juice, Flip&Juice has a number of different programs, including an ice crushing program, a smoothie program and a program for making nut butter. The programs worked perfectly, so the versatility of this model is nothing to complain about. A blender in this price range that dishes up nut butter is a rare commodity. It took about 3 minutes, but the fact that it can do it at all is very positive.

It is also positive that the model comes with two extra small blender cups that you can take with you on the go.

Ease of use is also good. Here you use a navigation wheel to select a function. The display looks nice and is easy to read. If you are unsure, you can use the Philips HomeId app. Here you will also find recipes and tips.

Both when we make smoothies and juices, we experience that the machine shakes a bit. Fortunately, it has suction cup feet that make it stand steady. The quality of the smoothie is good and there is relatively little fiber that does not break down.

In short

Philips Flip&Juice is marketed as a combined juicer and blender. However, we think it is far better as a blender. It is a shame that the juice function is not better, and the main problem is the amount of juice that only holds one glass, and that the juice is diluted. The way in which the juice is extracted is also not optimal. Most juicers that are sold are so-called slow juicers, where the fruit and vegetables are crushed slowly for the least possible oxidation of the juice.

But, as a blender, the Flip&Juice is pretty good and that’s why it gets a good grade from us. Although we must emphasize that the juicer function did not work very well.
