On Monday last week, the child of the technology leaders Caterina Fake and Stewart Butterfield was reported missing.

On Saturday, the police in San Francisco announced that the 16-year-old has been found safe and sound, according to USA Today and the Independent.

According to the police, the mother must have discovered that the teenager was missing, and found a note indicating that the 16-year-old had run away.

Found in van

The 16-year-old was found in a white van in the notorious Tenderloin district, an area known for drug and crime problems.

The teenager was found together with a 26-year-old man. He is now arrested for child abduction.

The bail is set at 50,000 dollars, approximately 550,000 Norwegian kroner.

According to the investigators, the teenager must have run away from home voluntarily, and has now been reunited with his family.

– A heartfelt thank you

Butterfield is a co-founder of the communication service Slack, and her mother Catarina Fake is a co-founder of the photo-sharing system Flickr.

Now they thank the police for finding their child safe and sound.

– A heartfelt thank you to all the family, friends, volunteers and strangers who called in with tips and got the case resolved.

They also extend special thanks to the investigators who “understand the threat posed by abusers who use narcotic lures to groom teenagers.”
