Mini Aceman launched

Mini launches its new bridge builder between Cooper and Countryman. Aceman will only be sold as an electric car, but will be offered in two power levels.

Mini defines the Aceman as the first crossover model in the premium small car segment. I am not sure how long that claim will remain unchallenged – premium is not a clearly defined term, and there is eventually a good selection of compact electric cars from various manufacturers.

Despite compact external dimensions with a length of just over four metres, the car offers space for five people and a luggage compartment of 300 liters (up to 1005 liters with the seat backs down). And in familiar Mini style, the manufacturer promises that the classic go-kart feeling is in place.

Sporty and confident

Mini wants to attract a youthful buying group with Aceman’s compact and original design language. A typical city car, but with a range of up to 406 kilometers you can also move outside the city limits.

With a length of 407 centimeters, a width of 175 cm and a height of 1.5 meters, Aceman ends up between Cooper and Countryman; yes, in fact, it is roughly on par with the first generation Countryman, which was 410 cm long. And it is easily recognizable with design features we know from other family members.

Quick acceleration

Aceman comes in two variants, as Aceman E and Aceman SE. The former has a battery pack of 42.5 kWh which gives a range of up to 310 km (WLTP). The engine produces 135 kW (184 hp) with a maximum torque of 290 newton metres. It takes you to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and has a top speed of 160 km/h.

Aceman SE has a larger battery pack of 54.2 kWh and a range of up to 406 km. The engine produces 160 kW (218 hp) with a maximum torque of 330 Nm. 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds, and a top speed of 170 km/h.

Both variants have a maximum charging capacity of 11 kW for AC charging. It allows for rapid charging of up to 75 kW in the Aceman E and 95 kW in the Aceman SE, so that under ideal conditions you can charge the battery pack from 10 to 80 percent in just under half an hour.

To ensure efficient charging periods, the battery is acclimatised to ideal conditions if the car’s navigation system is used to navigate to a fast charger.

Sales of the new MINI Aceman are expected to start at the beginning of the summer, and the first cars will be able to be parked in the garage towards the end of the year.

Thank you, and goodbye to the Mini Clubman

Today, the last Mini Clubman rolled off the assembly line in Oxford. The car traces its roots back to the 60s when its owner, BMC, introduced two station wagons of the original Mini, the Austin Seven Countryman and the Morris Mini Traveller. The first Mini Clubman came in 1967 and was 10 cm longer than its ancestors. The Clubman was reborn by the BMW group in 2007, and the one that is now saying goodbye arrived in 2015. A total of 1.1 million Mini Clubmans have been produced, divided 50:50 between the original and the last two.
