According to UNRWA, the attackers shouted “Burn down the UN” and set fire to the outdoor area.

No one was injured in the attack, and staff managed to put out the fire before it spread to the fuel pumps of the UN fleet.

– This is an outrageous development. Once again, the lives of UN staff were in grave danger, https://twitter.com/UNLazzarini/status/1788643951945150790

– As a result of this terrible incident, which is the second in less than a week, I have decided to close the offices until proper security has been restored, writes Lazzarini.

He emphasizes that it is Israel that is responsible for protecting UN personnel and facilities.

Extreme Israelis have been demonstrating outside the UNRWA headquarters in Jerusalem for several months, and earlier this week stones were thrown at the building and staff.

According to Lazzarini, considerable damage has also been done to the building in recent months, and the employees have been repeatedly threatened with weapons by extreme Israelis.
