Shot his dog – Dagsavisen

--

Kristi Noem, with Norwegian ancestry, is very likely to become Donald Trump’s vice-presidential candidate. In her new book “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward”, she now reveals that she shot and killed her own dog, reports The Guardian, which has obtained a copy before the book comes out next month.

The reaction has been hailed since the story became known.

– Most Americans love their dogs, and we suspect they will view Noem as a psychotic lunatic for letting this loose puppy loose on chickens and then punishing her by deciding to personally shoot her in the head rather than attempt to train her or find a more responsible guardian who could give her a proper home, writes senior vice president of PETA, Colleen O’Brien on PETA’s own website.

Author and journalist Rick Wilson who is anti-Trump and part of The Lincoln Project calls Noem “deliberately cruel” and “garbage” https://twitter.com/TheRickWilson/status/1783839315727888679

Once upon a time there was a dog, a goat and three horses

In the book, she describes that the dog, who was named Cricket, had an aggressive personality, and her aim was to train the dog for pheasant hunting in order to calm the dog, but that it did not go as expected.

According to Noem, the dog did not behave despite attempts with an electronic collar, and when the dog attacked the chickens of a family she knew, she writes that she eventually had to shoot the dog.

The Republican governor admits in the book that she began to hate her dog, and that she believes the dog behaved like a trained assassin. According to her, the dog became dangerous to everyone she came into contact with and she realized that the dog had to be euthanized, which is why she chose to shoot her dog.

However, that is not the only shooting episode Noem tells about in the book, as her family also owned a male goat that was “nasty and mean”, because it was not castrated. In addition, the goat smelled disgusting and rancid and, like the dog, the goat also loved to chase. So she decided to shoot it too, but the goat escaped the first shot as it managed to jump away and only received a wound. Then Noem writes that she went back and got a new cartridge and shot the goat again.

In addition to the dog and the goat, Noem has also euthanized three horses. In the book, she says that she is fond of her animals, but that “sometimes you have to make difficult decisions”.

More animal stories

It is not the first time a Republican presidential candidate is in trouble because of his animal history.

In 2012, when Mitt Romney was the Republican presidential candidate, he was hanged for tying his dog Seamus to the roof of the family car during a road trip.

The dog was then placed in a crate that he attached to the top of the car for a 12-hour drive from Boston to Ontario. At one point, Seamus had diarrhoea, which meant that Romney had to drive over to the side of the road and wash the windscreen, writes CBS.

In 2016, then-President Barack Obama also received criticism from his opponents when he wrote in a book that he ate dog when he lived in Indonesia from the age of six to ten.
