Masked people attacked a political event in Stockholm

A large police operation is underway on Wednesday evening at a theater in Gubbängen, south of Stockholm.

According to the Swedish media, masked people are said to have thrown smoke bombs into a political event organized by the Left Party.

– It was a terrible fog. It was difficult to breathe, says board member of the Left Party Margareta Olofsson Aftonbladet.

The police tell the newspaper that no one has been arrested at this time.

– One had gotten color in the face and another had gotten something in the eyes. It was unpleasant, I have never been involved in this. You have an event and offer coffee and buns, so someone does this, says Oloffson.

According to the anti-racist foundation Expo, it was Nazis who attacked the event just before Expo itself was to give a lecture.

Several ambulances rushed to the scene. According to Aftonbladet, two people have been taken to hospital.

Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has commented on the incident on Wednesday evening:

– An attack on a democratic meeting is an attack on our entire democracy.
