The TV 2 program “Sommerhytta” is currently running on Norwegian TV screens. Among this year’s cabin builders are the cohabiting couple Helene Svaland Johansen (31) and Henrik Heika Wiik (29).
Here are the participants
The couple told Se og Hør that they started without any construction experience.
– It was a very tough experience. It was new and difficult, and there is a lot coming out this season that shows that this is not something we had done before, says Wiik.
– On the minus side from day one
However, it was not a lack of competence that would lead to problems.
Prior to participating, Johansen had undergone an intensive period, where she juggled a full-time job, an artist career and studies at the same time.
– I was tired and very on the negative side from the first day. I started struggling with sleep quite early on, and eventually I started to feel quite unwell, she says.
Johansen therefore first got a one-day break from the competition, where her father stepped in in her place. It was a sobbing Johansen who returned, and it was clear that she had reached a rock bottom.
In Thursday’s episode, the 31-year-old could be seen in tears after what she described as “the worst week of her life”.
– I was completely out of energy, and my body just said stop. I had to take a break to be able to continue, she says.
Abandoned the recording
After talking with the production, they all agreed on what was the best solution: Johansen had to take a break from the program in an attempt to regain his strength.
Couldn’t use the cabin: – Tough process
TV 2 mentioned the case first.
– I had a slightly longer break from recording. I had simply had too hard a run-up before “Sommerhytta”, and had to go home for a week.
Meanwhile, friends and family donned substitute jerseys.
– We were very lucky, and received good help from those around us, Johansen continues.
Wiik adds:
– I signed up together with Helene, and not with my father-in-law and sister-in-law. It was hard, and I was very tired, but then it was also good to have her back.
After a week at home in Oslo, Johansen returned to Kungsvik in Sweden – with renewed vigor and energy.
– I felt the break helped. It turned around for me when I came back. I was able to enjoy it more, and felt proud of what we were able to create, she smiles.
– I was disappointed
Quality seal
That Johansen was absent for a short period led to both reflection and gratitude.
– You see things differently when you are tired. For us, I think it was difficult to see the positives we achieved, and to be proud of it. It happens when you lack sleep, and luckily it turned around after I got a break.
Despite some obstacles, the couple says that the participation has only had a positive effect on the relationship.
– We have gotten to know each other even better, and the extreme version of ourselves. That we have managed to come out of this, where we still love each other, and still want to build a life together, is a mark of quality, says Johansen.
