The name of the deceased has been released with the approval of next of kin, according to the Swedish newspaper Expressen.

The police first reported the avalanche at 1.27pm on Friday afternoon, where it was later revealed that three people had been swept away by the avalanche.

Of the three who were caught in the avalanche, it was Erik Johansson who died in the avalanche accident at Moanebba by the Isfjorden in Rauma. He was transported to St. Olav’s hospital in Trondheim, but unfortunately his life could not be saved.

– So many people are affected, he had so many friends, says teammate Christian Olsson. His local ski club Tranemo IF is in mourning after receiving word of the death.

He is described as an adventurer with contacts all over the world, and as a guy who was always happy and positive, says Expressen.

The other two Swedes in the group are still being treated in hospital on Saturday.

One of the two must be seriously injured, but not critically injured.

The third Swede’s injuries were minor.

Career

In April 2022, the 32-year-old won gold in the Swedish championship in randonée (ski alpinism), where the athletes compete in climbing mountains on super-light peak touring equipment and driving back down – as quickly as possible.

In the autumn, Johansson took sixth place during the multisport WC in Paraguay.
