The 85-year-old woman was reported missing on Sunday 18 December. On the night of Monday, she was found dead in Boden in Norbottn in Sweden.
It was neighbors who alerted the police.
Despite the fact that the Christmas tree was in the middle of the square on Medborgarplatsen in Boden, the woman probably lay dead under the tree for several days, writes the Swedish newspaper Expressen.
– Now this was a very dense spruce, and it was dense all the way down to the ground. So when you see how it looks, it’s not so strange, says investigation manager Anette Krig in the police to the newspaper.
The last time the woman was seen alive was on Lucia Day, Tuesday 13 December. She has probably been under the Christmas tree since then.
– Everything suggests that she has been lying there since Tuesday, when she was last seen alive. We have no indications that she has been anywhere else from the time she disappeared until she was found, says Krig to Expressen.
The police do not suspect that the woman has been exposed to anything criminal.
