Paramount+ is dead. Now SkyShowtime is here

--

Yep, we’ve got another new streaming service.

About a year ago, Comcast and ViacomCBS announced that the new streaming service SkyShowtime was on the way.

The service has now been launched in Norway.

Sky Showtime replace today’s Paramount+ service, which launched just a year and a half ago.

SkyShowtime is the result of ViacomCBS joining forces with Comcast to deliver more content to the new service. It will get content from the catalogs of Sky, NBCUniversal, Universal Pictures, Showtime, Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon and Peacock. A number of Dreamworks films also find their way to the service.

Together, these companies hold the rights to series such as Dexter, Twin Peaks, Yellowstone, Homeland, NCIS, Parks and Recreation, The Office, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and the Halo series, to name a few.

From the Halo series.

At the launch, we are promised over 10,000 hours of content, and among the films SkyShowtime itself highlights for the Norwegian market we find Jurassic Park Dominion, Minions: The Rise of Gru, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the Godfather trilogy, the Fast & Furious films and Back to the future trilogy.

The press release states that SkyShowtime will receive exclusive TV premieres of brand new films from Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures, Hollywood’s two oldest studios which together account for almost 50 percent of Hollywood’s cinema films.

From the Star Trek series.

SkyShowtime’s content can be streamed via the browser, or via its own apps for Apple iOS, tvOS, Android devices, Android TV and Google TV. SkyShowtime will also be available through the distributors Allente, RiksTV, Strim, Telenor, Telia and TV 2 Play.

The monthly price will be NOK 79, which is an increase of NOK 10 compared to Paramount+.

In comparison, Netflix costs from NOK 89 to NOK 159 per month, Disney+ and HBO Max NOK 89 per month, Prime Video NOK 65 per month and Apple’s TV+ service NOK 59 per month.

The streaming quality itself is not mentioned, but as Paramount+ already streamed series and films in up to 4K HDR resolution and supported both Surround and Dolby Atmos sound, it can be assumed that this will continue with SkyShowtime.
