Madison Blast’s Home Run; Covey Pitches Fifth Complete Game Against HPU

--

AZUSA, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine baseball team has made it into the PacWest Conference Championships for the first time in program history since the NCAA DII era. The Golden Eagles started the tournament off against No. 2 seed Hawai’i Pacific and shut down their offense holding them to a 5-0 win.

The PacWest Co-Pitcher of the Year and Newcomer of the Year Jake Covey went the distance and struck out eight while not allowing one run. The junior held the Sharks offense to only four hits and HPU did not get past second base. This is his fifth complete game throughout the season and improves to 7-2.

Covey got help from his offense with First Team All-Conference outfielder Michael Dixon going 4-for-4 with four singles and a run. David Baruch III hit an RBI single down the right field line to bring Isaiah Walz home safely and put up a run in the third frame.

The Golden Eagles scored added another four runs in the sixth inning with an RBI double from Luke Glascoe and Third Team All-Conference Wyatt Madison blasted a three-run homer to right center taking a 5-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles will move on to play against host team Azusa Pacific Thursday May 9 with a 3 pm start time. To see the full PacWest Conference Championships tournament page click HERE.
