Remembering the 16-year-old who died: – A local community that has been terribly affected

Flowers and candles have been laid at the scene in memory of the boy who lost his life in a motorbike accident in Trøgstad.

The 16-year-old was out riding his motorbike when the tragic accident occurred.

The police received a report at 12:27 on Saturday. They were told that there was a motorbike and a car involved in the accident.

Shortly afterwards, the 16-year-old boy was pronounced dead.

Open church in the village

VG was in Trøgstad on Sunday afternoon, where flowers and candles were lit at the crime scene. A group of young people was also there.

The church was open to residents who wanted to gather. Several young boys arrived on light MCs, the same type of motorcycle that the 16-year-old boy had.

Young people came hand in hand to church, and many brought flowers on this gray Sunday. A candle was lit outside the church, and music was played on the loudspeaker inside.

– Today we have open church, because yesterday there was an incident. It was a young boy who died. He was out on a motorcycle ride. And then the church is good to have, says priest Kjersti Marken to VG.

– We are a good team here, and will try to handle what comes next. Those who come can light candles, and we are available for a conversation, says Marken.

Kjartan Bergslid is the provost of Østre Borgesyssel parish, and is also present. Before the memorial service, he said it was important to offer people a place to meet.

– I think we will meet a local community that is terribly affected, and then as a church we want to offer a place to meet, he says and continues:

– This is a local community where most people know each other. The entire local community is affected by the incident.

The accident has also affected the mayor of Indre Østfold.

– This is terribly tragic, says Saxe Frøshaug.

Frøshaug sends thoughts to the bereaved.

– My thoughts go out to the relatives and those close to me.

– But it affects the whole local community when things like this happen, he adds.
