After one month of hospitalization in Spain, cyclist Lennard Kämna will be flown home to Germany on Wednesday. He suffered serious injuries in a collision in April.

It is Kämna’s employer Bora-hansgrohe who provides an update on the development surrounding the 27-year-old’s state of health.
Kämna has been hospitalized on the holiday island of Tenerife for four weeks after he was hit by a car during a training trip. His team has subsequently been sparse with details about the extent of the German’s injuries.
On Wednesday, the Bora team wrote that Kämna will now be moved to a clinic in Hamburg, where he will continue his rehabilitation and the road back to the bicycle seat. In the update, it is stated that the bicycle profile suffered many damages in the crash, particularly related to the chest region.
Kämna was operated on last week.
– Thank you for all the support in recent weeks. I would especially like to thank my boyfriend and family who have done everything to make me feel as comfortable as possible. It has not been an easy time at the University Hospital of Tenerife, but I am very grateful to the medical team and nurses for what they have done for me, says the German in a statement.
– I am overjoyed that the first step in my rehabilitation has been completed today, and that I can now move on to Hamburg. I will start the rehabilitation there, and I am very motivated to get back on the bike as soon as possible, but the most important thing is to get well again, he adds.
Kämna took a solid eighth place overall in the stage race Tirreno-Adriatico just before the crash in Tenerife. He also has a long list of other strong achievements to look back on, including three stage victories in the Tour de France.
