– It wasn’t 20 degrees, but we weren’t far off. Both Etne and Sandane in Vestland had 19.5 degrees, meteorologist on duty Hanne Beate Skattør at the Meteorological Institute told NTB on Tuesday evening.

Also in Stavanger and Haugesund, in addition to Frosta in Trøndelag, the temperature showed over 19 degrees on Tuesday.

At the same time, no less than two weather records were set in Tromsø during the day. The number of hours of sunshine in the month of April had during the morning whizzed past the previous record from 2016.

In 2016, according to the Meteorological Institute, there were 271.4 hours of sunshine in Tromsø in April.

Sunny April in Tromsø

When meteorologist Skattør checks the hours of sunshine in this year’s April just after 19:00 on Tuesday, although the figure for the new record has not yet been set, 276.9 hours of sunshine have been recorded.

The last day of April was also the hottest day of the year so far in Tromsø at 9.4 degrees, but in the southern parts of the country 1 May will probably be the hottest day of the year so far.

– The first Nordic summer day of the year can wait until tomorrow. Then the scale will probably hit the 20s in several places, says Skattør.

From Trøndelag and down the coast to the Swedish border, summer temperatures have been reported for the next few days as a result of warm air moving north from Greece. It will be warmest in the west, where temperatures can reach 24 degrees.

May reach flood level

Warmer weather accelerates the melting of snow in the mountains in the south, and in some places the rivers may reach flood level in the next few days, warns the Norwegian Directorate of Water Resources and Energy (NVE).

In snow-free areas in Nordland and parts of Sør-Troms, the heat brings with it other challenges, namely the risk of forest fires, and in Sunnmøre an orange danger warning for avalanches has been issued.

The spread of pollen also increases in line with the temperatures. In Eastern Norway, where the birch pollen season is in full swing, the Asthma and Allergy Association warns of a strong spread on Wednesday.

The spread of birch pollen is also increasing in Southern Norway and in Møre and Romsdal.
