Last week, the Borgarting Court of Appeal decided that the man can be extradited.

– We register that the Court of Appeal agrees that the conditions for extradition have been met, says Thea Elise Kjæraas, police attorney at Kripos, in a press release.

Kripos arrested the person in question in October 2022. Since he was arrested, Kripos has carried out a number of investigations to clarify whether the conditions for extradition have been met.

In September last year, the Oslo District Court concluded that the conditions for extradition have been met. The decision was appealed by the accused. On 19 April 2024, the Borgarting Court of Appeal dismissed the accused’s appeal and has thereby decided that the man can be extradited.

The Court of Appeal’s decision has been appealed to the Supreme Court.

In extradition cases, the court decides whether extradition can legally take place. If the court has concluded that the conditions for extradition have been met, it is up to the Ministry of Justice and Emergency Preparedness to decide whether extradition should take place.

Kripos has the national responsibility for investigating Norwegian or foreign citizens living in Norway who are suspected of having committed war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity.
