Seven-time champion Ronnie O’Sullivan only needs three more frames to beat Wales’ Ryan Day and move into the quarter-finals of the World Snooker Championship for a 22nd time.

O’Sullivan leads 10-6 against the world number 18, with the match being played to a finish on Monday afternoon from 13:00 BST.

The Englishman held a 5-3 lead after the first session and won five of the first six frames in the evening session, helped by impressive breaks of 82, 65, 89, 56 and 96.

But Day, a first-round winner over 15th seed Barry Hawkins, ended the day strongly with breaks of 72 and 75 to claim the last two frames.

Nevertheless, O’Sullivan will still be a strong favorite to advance into the last eight, where he would meet either Jack Lisowski, 17th in the rankings, or 2015 champion Stuart Bingham.

Kyren Wilson, the 12th seed and Crucible finalist in 2020, gained a 10-1 victory over 52-year-old Dominic Dale in the first round and is in control of his last-16 match with Joe O’Connor.

The world number 30 defeated fellow Leicester player Mark Selby in a first-round shock, but has it all to do on Monday. Wilson leads O’Connor 10-6 and only needs three more frames to set up a quarter-final with either Mark Allen or John Higgins.
