What happened to Veronika Belgen? – NRK Vestfold and Telemark – Local news, TV and radio

--

The family is certain that Belgen was exposed to something criminal.

– We are quite convinced that this is a murder, says Belgen’s little sister, Kristine to NRK.

Have opened the Facebook account

Recently, the police gained access to the mother-of-three’s Facebook account.

Via the conversation program Messenger, the police have found out who she chatted with in the time before she disappeared.

– Vi have found out the contents and have questioned most of the people she spoke to. It remains to speak with one or two of them, says police inspector Odd Skei Kostveit in the South-East police district

However, the police believe that it is unlikely that the 35-year-old has been exposed to anything criminal.

The sister was not aware that the police had gained access to the Facebook account, but believes the police cannot rule out murder. Although they now know who Belgen has spoken to.

We are really most interested in finding out what has happened to Veronika. And get whoever did it, says the sister.

– Dthere is nothing concrete that gives reason to think that she has been killed, says Kostveit to NRK.

No sign of scheduled meetings

The last sign of life came on 30 July 2022. Then her mobile phone rang at a base station near Akersvannet.

That same night, she called the police’s emergency number twice, without the police responding. The first time, she allegedly said, among other things, that she had been kidnapped.

The last observation of the 35-year-old was made in the center of Stokke on the same day she disappeared. Then she must have had an agreement to meet another woman.

The little sister says that it is a long way to walk from the center of Stokke to Akersvannet, where the sister was found.

She also points out that her older sister had called the emergency number from two different phone numbers.

After going through the Messenger conversations and the contents of the Facebook account,

the police no longer believe that Belgen had any agreement on the day she disappeared.

Unknown cause of death

– VYou now know a little more about who she had contact with that day. We have found no clear sign that she had an agreement to meet someone or met someone that day, says police inspector Kostveit.

Nine months after the last sign of life, Belgen was found dead on 27 April last year.

The autopsy of the 35-year-old gave no definite answers as to what led to her death.

In an early phase of the investigation, the police investigated whether the mother of three could have been abducted.

– I and with the fact that no one got in touch with her, and that she then disappeared from social media, deprivation of liberty could be an alternative, says Kostveit.

In any case, the family believes that Belgen was killed. They believe it happened after she called 911 the night she died and asked for help.

Although the police believe that nothing criminal has happened, they are still working to find out what happened when she disappeared.
