It seems that the parent company of esports organization Rogue is betting big on the future of drone racing, as it has now struck a deal with the Drone Racing League to buy the air sports property for the whopping price tag of $250 million.

“DRL is an expression of our belief that fans don’t just want to sit in a stadium or watch highlights on social media. The future of sports and entertainment involves new and cutting-edge formats that are much more immersive,” said John Acunto, CEO in Infinite Reality. “Now, with our combined resources, iR and DRL are poised to usher in a new era in sports entertainment, fueled by cutting-edge technology and fueled by fandom, creativity and community.”

Drone Racing League is pretty much what it says on the tin. Here, some of the best drone pilots from around the world meet to race as fast as possible through courses and tracks. Aerial sports have experienced significant growth in recent years on streaming platforms such as Twitch.

The acquisition is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2024, at the same time that Infinite Reality wants to go public soon in an attempt to consolidate its position as a leader in digital media and technology.
