Here are Samsung’s 2024 TV models

--

Just as the spring sun peeks out, TV manufacturers tend to do a spring cleaning of their ranges: aging 2023 models are replaced with brand new 2024 versions. On Wednesday, Samsung gave us a closer look at its latest TV and soundboard lineups for 2024. At the event Unbox & Discover 2024 the latest Neo QLED 8K and 4K, OLED TVs and soundbars were showcased.

Several of the products have previously been shown at CES 2024 and during the World of Samsung in Frankfurt, but now the models are being formally launched in the Nordics and are starting to roll out on store shelves.

A number of the products come with powerful, AI-driven solutions.

– We are pushing the boundaries of home entertainment by integrating AI in ways that go beyond traditional viewing experiences, says SW Yong, president and head of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

– This year’s lineup is a testament to our commitment to innovation, offering products that not only provide exceptional viewing experiences, but also contribute to our consumers’ lifestyles, says SW Yong.

Samsung TV 2024: Neo QLED 8K reigns supreme

As so often before, it is the 8K model QN900D – also known as Neo QLED 8K – which is the flagship of Samsung’s latest TV range. This MiniLED LCD screen is equipped with the most powerful NQ8 AI Gen3 processor, which is said to make a significant leap in AI TV technology.

Samsung claims that the processor works at up to twice the speed of its predecessor. In addition, it increases the number of neural networks eightfold, from 64 to 512. This allows for very advanced and nuanced image processing.

The Neo QLED 8K screen uses computing power to bring out the finest details from various types of TV content, from facial expressions to the most subtle nuances. 8K AI Upscaling Pro upscales the content to fit the resolution of the 8K screen, while AI Motion Enhancer Pro makes movements smoother and clearer. Real Depth Enhancer Pro adds an extra depth to the image.

Neo QLED 8K also uses AI technology to provide a better audio experience, it is claimed: Finessen Active Voice Amplifier Pro has been improved and is now better able to separate dialogue from background noise, so that every word is reproduced more clearly
The QN900D is equipped with a number of speakers mounted in different places on the screen, and has so-called Object Tracking Sound Pro which should provide better placement of the sound effects according to the action on the screen. The TV is also able to adjust the sound in relation to the content and acoustics in the room (Adaptive Sound Pro).

The 8K technology is divided into two model series, QN900D and QN800D, in the sizes 65, 75 and 85 inches.

Neo QLED 4K and OLED

In addition to the 8K models, a wide range of 4K models with Neo QLED and OLED screen technology will of course be rolled out. These come with many of the same AI features, but have to make do with the slightly weaker NQ4 AI Gen2 processor.

Neo QLED 4K (LCD with MiniLED) will be available in sizes ranging from 55 up to 98 inches.

Samsung also introduces the world’s first “Glare-Free OLED” – which eliminates unnecessary glare while preserving deep blacks and clear images in all lighting conditions. The new filter is being used on the OLED top model S95D, which uses the same NQ4 AI Gen2 processor as the Neo QLED 4K series.

The top model S95D uses a separate One Connect Box which is mounted on the back of the stand or can be hidden in the TV stand. The latter is advantageous if you want to mount the TV on the wall.

The OLED screens also have Motion Xcelerator 144Hz7 which ensures smooth movement and fast response rates for gaming.

Samsung OLED will be available in three model series – S95D, S90D and S85D – from 42 to 83 inches, which of course will have a very slim design. Most of these screens will be based on the QD-OLED technology from Samsung Display, but on some models and screen sizes, OLED panels from LG Display can also be used.

New 98-inchers

Samsung also has some new large screens in store: The new QN90D series comes in screen sizes up to 98 inches.

In addition to the aforementioned premium and high-end models, Samsung has also chosen to renew the so-called Crystal UHD series. These are relatively simple LCD screens that still have many of the features we know from more expensive models. Among other things, the new DU9005 series is delivered in screen sizes up to 98 inches.

New soundboards

Samsung has been the world’s largest TV manufacturer for 18 years in a row, but they also claim to be the world’s best-selling soundbar brand for the last 10 years. This is probably partly because, in experience, the products play well in teams.

For example, many of the soundbars come with features such as Q-Symphony, where the speakers in the Samsung TV and the soundbar play together to achieve a better, more coherent sound experience.

The top model in this year’s Q-Series Soundbar range is called the HW-Q990D. It has an 11.1.4 channel setup with wireless rear speakers. It also supports wireless audio transmission with Dolby Atmos, so you can potentially ditch the HDMI cable between TV and soundbar. It takes over from the HW-Q990C/Q995C with which we have good test experience.

In addition, new “ultra-slim” S810D and S710D models with a space-saving design are coming this year.

Last but not least, Samsung has presented the brand new Music Frame, a wireless, picture frame-like speaker inspired by the TV screen The Frame. It can be used to frame personal photos or artwork while playing music. It can be used independently or in stereo pairs, and together with a 2024 Samsung TV and sound bar.
