Arne was born in Fåvang on 9 May 1928, and throughout his life retained his identity as Gudbrandsdøl. He studied animal husbandry at NLH 1951-1954 and was both an agricultural school teacher and associate professor of science. at NLH before in 1961 he got a job at A/S Landbruksforlaget, eventually as publishing editor and publishing manager. In his professional work, he was responsible for many publications of specialist books which meant a lot for the development of expertise in agriculture.

Throughout his adult life, he has been strongly connected to the Center movement, and could point to 65 years of membership in the Center Party. In the 1960s, he was leader of the Oslo Center Party and a member of the Center Party’s National Council. He led both the main organization’s Organization Committee and Finance Committee during this period.

He was co-founder and board member of Cultura Forlag 1970-71, editor of the Center Party’s ideological journal 1978-1981 and co-founder of the center-political “Green Forum” in 1980. In the 1970s, Arne was involved both at county and local level. He was a board member of the Akershus Center Party, with leadership in both the press committee and election campaign committee.

In the local party he was leader 1970-1973, member of the municipal council 1971-1978, member of the board of studies, school board and cultural board among many positions. He led and was a member of Ås Elder Council for many years, and wrote engaging articles and newspaper articles right up to the end. Arne was happy to take the floor and was thorough and skillful in his argumentation, with extensive knowledge in many areas of politics. He was a keen advocate for Ås municipality to use Breivoll farm by the Bunnefjorden for the benefit of the public. As a pensioner, he was also for many years involved in building up the Norwegian Agricultural Museum on Campus Ås, for which he made a formidable voluntary effort.

Arne was awarded the Center Party’s badge of honor in 2000, and appointed an honorary member of Ås Center Party in 2021.

At his death, he leaves behind his wife Solveig, three children, a son-in-law, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
