From the first time we heard about Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe nearly two years ago at Ubisoft Forward, we knew this was going to be a very different take on the French company’s flagship franchise. Everything about it inspired gloom and dread, and it seems that development is now speeding up, as Insider Gaming has published a report detailing the game.

First of all, production is underway, but it appears that it is still in its early stages. The game will not reach the public before 2026 at the earliest, and it is launching as a release for the Infinity platform, the next phase in the connected universe of all Assassin’s Creed. We also know that at Hexe we will not allow ourselves to choose the gender of the main character, and that we are going to control a female character named (for now) Elsawho has supernatural powers, and that the plot is set in the 16th century in what is now Germany.

It seems that another piece of news is that it will contain a Fear System which is similar to what we saw in the Assassin’s Creed Syndicate expansion “Jack the Ripper”, and that it will be a much more linear adventure than the open worlds we have become accustomed to in the series.

Logically, there aren’t that many more details at the moment. And while the source is not official, it appears that his sources are. Regardless, and considering we won’t get our hands on it, there’s still plenty of time for Codename Hexe to develop its potential and become the breath of fresh air the series needs.
