The round continues through the night.

Viktor Hovland is back in tournament play for the first time since The Masters a month ago. There, the Norwegian missed the cut for the first time in two years.

The Norwegian had a very tough time on the last holes of the opening round. In the end he came in at +1 overall and a provisional 45th place.

Xander Schauffele is currently in the lead with a total of -7.

Promising Hovland tendencies: Here he delivers a hole-in-one the day before

Great start

The 26-year-old, on the other hand, got off to a great start in the opening round when he was able to score a birdie on the first hole. He then followed up with par on the next three holes, before the second birdie of the day was a fact on the subsequent par four hole.

After a trip down the fairway bunker on the tee at hole six, Hovland had to note the first square on the scorecard for the round. However, he straightened it up again on the next hole, where he had a good eagle opportunity which eventually resulted in another birdie.

– This is how we are used to and how we like to see him, said Discovery’s golf commentator Henrik Bjørnstad.

The Norwegian golf star finished the “front nine” with a bogey and started the last nine with a total of -1.

– It is so bad

Hol ten was a rollercoaster for the Ekeberg boy. The second shot landed just below the green, and Hovland was clearly unhappy. He stated “it’s so bad” soon after the battle.

Discovery’s golf commentators were not particularly impressed with the recording. The ball lands eight meters from the hole.

– I don’t think I was very good at that. It is all night, said Per Haugsrud.

But Hovland impressed in the end with a birdie.

– Have you seen what a putting he delivers! It is strong to get it in there, said Haugsrud.

– It’s a bonus. There I had written five on the card, said Bjørnstad.

Hovland shocked the commentators: – It’s strong!

Tough ending

On the next hole, however, Hovland had to endure another bogey, before he followed up with three straight pars.

Hovland recorded the fifth birdie of the round on hole 15, and was back at -2.

– Now it’s about clinging to -2 last three here. It is of course possible to make a birdie on them as well, but that means finishing with three pars as a liability. They are so tough, said Bjørnstad.

The Norwegian really got to know that it was tough. On hole 16 he missed the par putt, which was three metres, and he had to leave with the fourth bogey of the round.

On the penultimate hole, Hovland got away with a pair, but then it was tough again.

After being out in the semi rough on the last hole, Hovland hit the ball into the water on the left side of the green. Thus he left with a double bogey, and even in the end at one stroke over par.
