On Saturday, the Holmenkoll Relay will be held on Oslo’s western edge. If you plan to move around the city – be prepared that it may take time.

A number of roads are closed to all traffic in connection with the race. The trail will remain closed from 10 a.m. until around 7.30 p.m.

The closure also affects public transport in several places. Ruter states that the subway runs as normal, while both buses and trams give way to runners from 10.30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Here you can check which public transport lines are affected, and on the map below you can see where the trail goes.

Record number of participants

The organizer of the Holmenkollstafetten, IK Tjalve, reported earlier this week a record number of participants, with more than 72,000 registered participants.

On Thursday, the number reached 73,000.

– This makes us the world’s biggest running event this year, says general manager of the sports club, Matias Lavik.

He is also very satisfied with the weather forecast: During the race, temperatures of up to 20 degrees and partly cloudy skies are expected over the capital.

– It’s great running weather! Our stages are quite short, so people will not experience any particular loss of fluid, but we recommend the participants to bring drinks and apply sunscreen (with sun cream jour. note), says Lavik.

The police are present

Also last weekend there was reduced accessibility in Oslo, as a result of the Sentrumsløpet, where 11,500 runners were registered.

– Both of these events are well planned by the organizers, and the police have a good dialogue with them, says chief of staff Harald Nilssen of the Oslo police by e-mail via the communications department.

He states that last weekend’s running event was held without any unwanted incidents.

– The events also lead to higher pressure in the nightlife and the police expect guests and visitors to behave. The police will be present in the cityscape, and are available to the public. We deploy resources where there is a need and have a quick response time for acute incidents, says Nilssen.
