Francis Ngannou has confirmed the death of his 15-month-old son Kobe in a message on social media on Monday night.
– It was too early to leave us, but still he is gone, writes the 37-year-old MMA athlete and boxer.
– My little boy, my companion, my partner Kobe was full of life and joy. Now he lies lifeless. I called his name over and over but he doesn’t answer.
– I was at my best by his side, and now I don’t know who I am. Life is so unfair and hits us where it hurts the most, writes Ngannou according to Sky Sports.
The former UFC heavyweight champion switched to professional boxing last year. He gave Tyson Fury a tough fight in his first pro fight in Saudi Arabia in October, but lost in the end. In March, he was stopped in the second round by Anthony Joshua.
Colleagues such as Conor McGregor and Ngannou’s trainer Eric Nicksick are among those who have expressed their condolences.
– I am so sorry to hear about your loss, Francis. My prayers are with you and your family at this time,” McGregor wrote.
