Nettavisen: In a giant ski jumping hill on top of the mountain Hlíðarfjall in Iceland, Kobayashi is said to have tried to set a new unofficial world record in ski jumping on Tuesday. This is reported by the Icelandic RUV.

The Japanese reportedly managed to jump 256 meters in his last jump on Tuesday, which is further than the current official world record. It is 253.5 meters long and belongs to Stefan Kraft.

RUV writes that eyewitnesses should have seen that one of Kobayashi’s assistants was cheering, and he should have been convinced that he had broken the world record.

However, Kobayashi’s goal is to jump the entire 300 meters. He will reportedly return to the mountain on Wednesday to make more attempts.

Halvor Egner Granerud himself shared RUV’s article on X on Tuesday evening. He reacts in the following way to Kobayashi’s stunt.

“Say whaaat!?” along with emojis of shocked eyes and a gaping face.

The stunt in Iceland is said to have been planned for a year, and Red Bull Japan is said to be behind it all. The ski jump that has been built on the side of the mountain is to be a replica of the ski flying slope in Vikersund.

Kobayashi has been one of the world’s best ski jumpers for several years. During the Olympics in Beijing in 2022, he won gold in normal downhill.
