“Russian day” – Just to give a fuck

--

TUSENFRYD, ÅS (Dagbladet): There are rarely as many colorful teenagers in Norway’s largest amusement park as there are in May.

Ever since 1990, Tusenfryd has organized “Russian Day”, which means that only Russians can enjoy the park.

This year, over 4,000 people have made the trip to the amusement park in Ås, estimates marketing manager Erik Røhne Andersen. And this year’s event seems to go down well with this year’s Russian litter.

– Just give a fuck! We are enjoying ourselves, says Madeleine Dahl to Dagbladet.

Together with her friends Isabelle Lundaas and Vilde Verås, she has made the trip from Bærum to Ås to enjoy the rush until 17 May.

The Bærum girls believe that the Russian season is about giving as much blank space as possible – and all three agree that the last few weeks have lived up to expectations.

– Damn “easy”, but I’m starting to get a little sick now, says Isabelle.

No takeaways allowed

You are not allowed to bring your own drink into Tusenfryd during “Russian Day”. A total of four places have been granted a liquor licence, but many of those present have spent the hours beforehand enjoying something good by the glass.

Many Russians believe that alcohol and carousels can go hand in hand – but in moderation.

– Russians who like cocaine and whore

– I’ve had some alcohol, and this will be my first carousel, so I’ll almost have to answer that when I’ve taken it, says Katrine Vognild from Lillestrøm.

She also claims that the vomit was looser the last time she was in the park – and then without alcohol.

– You don’t vomit anything more from alcohol, she chuckles jokingly, almost to the chorus of a throng of other drunks screaming behind.

– Very good

Although both Russia and the Russian celebration as a whole are constantly accused of stretching the rope a little too far, it looks as if the event outside Oslo is taking place within a decent framework.

Grethe Gonella has been a volunteer at the event since it first started in 1990. Together with Ella Walle, she follows up and looks after the young people who flock to the amusement park.

– What is it like to be here 34 years later?

– It’s almost the same. The Russian behaves well and there is a good atmosphere. The park has become bigger and new things have arrived. It’s a lot of fun, says Gonella to Dagbladet.

– 90,000 per person, plus alcohol

– Has the Russian got worse in recent years?

– I certainly don’t think so, she says – and receives support from Walle:

– I think they are very decent, if you are decent yourself. They are supposed to have fun – we have to respect that.

– So, in other words, we can conclude that the Russians are decent people?

– Absolutely, say the two volunteers in agreement.
