On Monday, it became known that athletics coach Gjert Ingebrigtsen (58) has been charged with violating section 282 of the Criminal Code, which concerns abuse in close relationships, against one of the victims in the case.

The coach of Narve Gilje Nordås has always denied having used violence against his children.

The criminal case against Gjert Ingebrigtsen takes place in the middle of the build-up to the summer’s big highlight for the athletes, namely the Olympics in Paris. The Olympic Games are only three months away.

The timing of the indictment against Gjert Ingebrigtsen is bad news for his son Jakob Ingebrigtsen, says NRK’s ​​sports commentator Jan Petter Saltvedt. Jakob Ingebrigtsen is one of Norway’s greatest medal hopes during the Olympics.

Disagree with the presentation

Gjert Ingebrigtsen’s lawyer John Christian Elden wrote in a message to NTB on Monday that Ingebrigtsen “disagrees with the presentation of the events on which the indictment is based”, and writes further:

“We note that the case now has a completely different character than it initially had, and that the case has been dropped for all of the other victims. With regard to the dropped cases, we agree that there is no evidentiary cover for Ingebrigtsen to have done anything punishable”.
