Young boy stabbed: – Deeply shocked

--

Latest: The charge has now been changed to attempted murder, reports VG.

– In the morning it was a young boy who was attacked with what we currently believe may be a knife and a stone by a man in his 50s, says police task leader Anders Strømsæther.

The task leader refers to it as a “very serious matter”. The police received information about the incident at approximately 08:34.

– The boy was injured – hopefully slightly injured. There was a lot of blood. The police were notified and quickly arrived at the scene, where they arrested the man in his 50s and took care of the boy, says Strømsæther.

On the way to school

The boy is said to have been on his way to school when the violent incident took place. He has been admitted to Kalnes hospital with cuts or stab wounds, the police say.

– As of now, we are not aware of any known relationship between the victim and the accused, this is part of what we are working to map. The municipality has been notified, says operations manager Lisbeth Mjøsund.

The police are familiar with the man from before. The attack on the boy seems random, writes NRK.

The police have control of the scene and have started an investigation. The scene is cordoned off on Thursday morning.

– We are now working on mapping the course of events and do not have this ready as of now, says Mjøsund.

Witnesses are asked to contact the police on tel. 649 99 130.

– Deeply shocked

Mayor of Moss, Simen Nord (H), is shaken by what has happened.

– I am deeply shocked to have heard that a student was stabbed on the way to Verket school this morning. According to the police, fortunately the student does not appear to be critically injured, says Nord in a statement to Dagbladet.

Verket skole is a school for grades 1 to 10.

The municipality’s psychosocial crisis team is at the school, and the municipality must do what it can to look after those who are affected or have witnessed this.

– According to what we understand, the perpetrator has been arrested in such a way that there is no danger to others. When something like that happens, it naturally creates fear and anxiety. There are many children who have also witnessed what has happened, says the mayor.
