The rockets are said to have been used on April 17 to bomb a military airport in Crimea last week, and Russian forces in another occupied area.
AP and Reuters write that they have received the information from US officials who are speaking anonymously in the case.
According to AP, the United States is sending more of this type of missile in the new military aid package that was signed by President Joe Biden on Wednesday.
National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan confirmed later on Wednesday that a “significant number” of long-range missiles had been sent, and that more would be coming. He said Ukraine has committed to using the weapons only on Ukrainian territory, not against targets in Russia.
He did not confirm that such rockets were also sent before the aid package was adopted.
These missiles have long been wanted by Ukraine, and give them the ability to shoot almost twice as far – up to 300 kilometers.
The US has long resisted sending long-range missiles to Ukraine, fearing they would use them to strike deep inside Russia.
