– She is one of the most skilled politicians we have

They have worked together in Oslo politics. Arild Hermstad is now head of MDG and Lan Marie Berg is deputy head.

– She has really changed Oslo once and for all with her efforts and is still doing a formidable job at the Storting, Hermstad says of Berg.

– She is one of the most skilled politicians we have in Norway, and is very important for the MDGs and Norway.

Lan Marie Berg wants to give herself up in politics.

She shared the news in an interview with Dagens Næringsliv on Thursday. There, Berg said that she will not be re-elected to the Storting, and that if she is re-elected as deputy speaker, she will resign from office during the next national assembly, which is in 2025. She will therefore remain in office for a while longer.

– I am happy that she continues to work for the green project. She will be a top politician for another year and a half, says Hermstad.

– I have full respect for the choice she has made, says Hermstad.

Berg is one of several top female politicians who have recently announced that they are resigning. The background for the decisions has varied. In the interview with DN, Berg says that the decision is not about the lives of small children, time constraints or unrest in the party.

– Norway’s toughest

The husband of Lan Marie Berg, Eivind Trædal, writes in a post on Facebook that it’s all a bit sad. At the same time, he emphasizes that he is very proud of his wife.

– I don’t know many politicians who have achieved so much in such a short time, and who have stood firm in so many storms, he writes.

– Proud to be married to Norway’s toughest politician, and excited for the next chapter, he adds.

Erna Solberg: – A prominent politician

Conservative party leader Erna Solberg thinks it is sad that Berg is giving up after such a short time in the Storting.

– She has been a prominent politician for the MDGs for many years. She has not been afraid to stand in tough debates, and this has meant that she has had to endure a lot of undeserved unfair criticism throughout. I wish her the best of luck going forward, says Solberg about Berg’s farewell to politics.

Party leader in Krf, Olaug Bollestad, also thinks it is sad that Berg is giving up.

– She is a very skilled politician, fearless and honest. Politics needs people like her. I also think it is particularly sad that she is yet another in the line of talented young women who have announced that they will not seek re-election to the Storting.

Venstre’s leader, Guri Melby, thanks Berg.

– Lan is tough and fearless, and she has been a very clear voice for climate and the environment in both local politics and in the Storting, she says to VG.

She hopes Berg continues to work for the climate, no matter what the future holds.

– I would like to thank her for her cooperation, and hope she continues to use her strong commitment for the good of the climate in other arenas as well, says Melby.

Sylvi Listhaug

The leader of the FRP, Sylvi Listhaug, thinks it is a shame that Lan Marie Berg announces that she will not stand for re-election.

– It’s a shame Lan Marie is giving up. We need politicians who dare to stand up for their opinions even if it costs money, says Sylvi Listhaug.

– I disagree with her about the very next thing, but she is a nice lady who is always in a good mood, she adds.

She also believes that Berg has contributed to democracy.

– We need diversity of opinion in a democracy. Lan Marie has contributed to that.
