The Nordlandsruta is one of their five recommendations for how to holiday like a local in an environmentally friendly way. This year it is possible to sign up for joint tours, where you can experience artistic events along the route in connection with Bodø2024.

The Nordland Route was established in 1988/89 by Nordland County Council in collaboration with six local tourist associations, affected landowners and municipalities. In 2020, a revitalization started to make it more accessible and better known.

The project is a collaboration between Nordland County Council, Statskog and six local tourist associations. Salten Friluftsråd has the operational management of the project. From 2025, the Rana tourist association takes over the operation on behalf of the tourist association.

The Nordland route runs from Børgefjell to Bjørnfjell, the length is approx. 650 km and it is divided into 43 stages with 43 accommodations. The Nordlandsruta route has a number of approach gates that allow you to walk one or more stages at a time. The route goes through three national parks, the Laponia World Heritage Site, 13 Sami villages and through a number of nature reserves.

In summer 2024, a collaboration between Bodø and its surroundings Tourist Association, Project Nordlandsruta and Bodø2024 has been put in place. There will be joint walks along the entire 650 km long Nordland route, with artistic elements under the auspices of Bodø2024 at selected places along the way.

On 27 July, a group in the north and a group in the south start, which then meet t21 days later in Daja, Sulitjelma. At 13 accommodations, cultural events will be organized with Norwegian and international artists. Registration started on 1 March.
