Just before 4 p.m., Avinor stated that this affects technical equipment and traffic management for all airports from Bodø and northward — in other words, Bardufoss Airport was also affected.

– We know very little, said airport manager at Tromsø Airport, Ivar Helsing Schrøen to VG on Friday afternoon.

He had no forecast for when air traffic would resume.

– After yesterday, I of course hope that it will go quickly.

Avinor announced late on Friday afternoon that several airports in the north had been opened to traffic after being closed due to a fiber cable break.

Alta, Banak, Kirkenes and Honningsvåg have been opened to traffic, Avinor announced at 5.45pm on Friday. An hour before, the company announced that traffic to and from Tromsø is being carried out with restrictions.

At 16.45, communications manager at Avinor Cathrine Framholt informed VG that very limited air traffic in and out of Tromsø Airport will be opened up.

– Which planes are allowed to land and take off then?

– There will probably be a priority, but there will also be scheduled flights in addition to ambulance flights and the like.

Air traffic in most of Norway was affected in the morning hours on Thursday. An error caused the airspace in the whole of southern Norway to be closed.

Afterwards, chaos was reported in several places, with long queues and “free game” on luggage.

Avinor set up crisis staff on Friday as a result of the incident.

At 20.30, Avinor states that air traffic is back to normal throughout northern Norway.

– The errors and breaks in the fiber cables have now been found and repaired. All systems have been thoroughly tested and we can return to normal operations. We apologize for the consequences these errors have had for those who did not get where they were supposed to tonight, and for everyone else who has been affected by the lack of air traffic in Northern Norway, writes Avinor.
