Over 50 killed in Gaza in the last 24 hours
51 people have been killed and 75 injured in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip in the last 24 hours.
The source for the death toll is the Palestinian health authorities in Gaza, which are controlled by Hamas. Aftenposten cannot independently verify the figures for those killed, and Hamas does not distinguish between civilians and combatants.
Israel’s bombing campaign and ground invasion have killed over 34,000 people.
The UN has pointed out that the figures given by the Palestinian health authorities in previous wars have later proved to be credible.

UN: It will take 14 years to clean up after Israel’s attack
Israel’s attack on the Gaza Strip has caused enormous destruction, and it will take 14 years to clear away building debris and unexploded explosive charges, the UN estimates.
The UN demining program (UNMAS) estimates that 37 million tonnes of building debris will have to be cleared away when the war is over.
With 100 trucks in continuous operation, it will take 14 years, estimates Pehr Lodhammar in UNMAS.
The work will be very demanding as an unknown number of unexploded bombs, rockets and other explosive charges are also hidden in the ruins, he says.
