Delays and cancellations affect air traffic in southern Norway

--

After the airspace in southern Norway was closed on Thursday morning, the problems have been queuing up for travelers:

  • Cancellations
  • Delays
  • Baggage challenges
  • Long queues

It was all due to a technical error.

But the problems are far from over by Thursday afternoon.

So far, approximately 9,000 customers of Norwegian have been affected by cancellations, according to the airline, which has canceled 65 flights. SAS does not want to release figures until the situation has stabilised.

– There are some after-effects after the problems earlier today. So there are several settings and a lot of delays, says Cathrine Fuglesang Framholt, communications manager at Avinor.

Nevertheless, there are some flights that go as planned, adds Framholt.

– Everyone must follow the information they receive. I do not recommend “gambling” that there will be delays.

However, it is the airlines themselves that are responsible for getting their customers where they are going.

Hoping for an improvement on Friday

– The traffic is in the process of normalizing, but you still have to expect that some departures will be delayed, SAS press officer Joachim Sponheim writes to VG.

– When do you think traffic will return to normal?

– There is reason to believe that the wings will go as planned on Friday morning, but this can change.

Norwegian’s press officer Silje Glorvigen is somewhat more confident in her answer:

– We see that there will be consequential delays after it has been closed. But it gets better during the evening. Tomorrow morning it will be as normal, says Glorvigen.

If something else should happen, they will make direct contact with the customers, she says.

Still luggage chaos

However, those who have already been affected by canceled flights have themselves had to search for their luggage in the domestic and international halls.

– We were told to go out of the foreign department to collect our luggage. But here there is an enormous amount of suitcases. It is chaos, Gry Haugen told VG earlier Thursday. She had her flight cancelled.

Avinor’s communications manager says that there are still challenges on Thursday afternoon related to luggage.

– The airlines still have a big job in handling luggage. There is still a lot of luggage both at home and abroad, says Framholt.

Norwegian admits to VG that the whole thing has been “clueless”:

– So it is not certain that everyone got their luggage with them today. We ask passengers to contact our representatives at the airport, says press officer Glorvigen.

SAS-Sponheim has the following message for those who may not have found their suitcase:

– They will have it resent as soon as possible.
