MILD: Fana Folkehøgskule contributes to creating a vibrant local environment in Milde. On Saturday, they invite the village to a spring festival with peace and sustainability as the theme.

– We live in a time of great unrest, and the students at the folk high school want to show that there are alternatives to war, says Emilie Sandvik-Mikalsen, a student at the school.

Many activities

Through exhibitions and various activities, the students will show how we can work for peace.

– Among other things, there will be the opportunity to take part in a Japanese tea ceremony, fold origami and make your own rhythm instruments and join in a samba performance. The music class has been working on the samba spectacle, and has been practicing all week, says Emilie Sandvik-Mikalsen.

There are activities suitable for both children and adults. The event is free, but the proceeds from the coffee sales go to Doctors Without Borders.

– Why invite to a spring party?

– We want to show off the school, the arboretum and the whole area, which is insanely beautiful. So why not, she says.

Tree planting

Earlier this year, Fana Folkehøgskule won the Sustainability Award, and at the spring festival, a new tree will be planted in the old monastery garden as a mark of this award.

– The prize for winning the Sustainability Award was a tree, and we will now plant that tree, says Sandvik-Mikalsen.

The sustainability prize is awarded by the Folkehøgskolerådet to folkhøgskoles that excel in their environmental work.

The environment and climate work are something important to Fana folkehøgskule and something that is worked on a lot. The school has reduced its annual CO2 emissions by almost 85 per cent from 2019 to 2022. Sustainable, short-traveled and organic food has become one of the school’s hallmarks.

Fana Folkehøgskole is one of 12 folkehøgskole that are involved in the project “Sustainable and local food at folkehøgskolen”. This project is a large project where the folk colleges collaborate with a number of organizations to increase their own expertise around short-traveled and sustainable food.

The students hope many will make the trip out to school and have a nice spring day out at Milde!! The event lasts from 12.00 to 14.00.
