So people went out of their homes to catch this event, which the Randaberg Dementia Association and DeKOR arranged, in collaboration with Health and Welfare in Randaberg Municipality, the Cultural School, the Library, the Varen Cultural Scene and the House of Volunteering.

Watch DeKOR perform “De nære ting” accompanied by saw

Before the concert, coffee and cakes were sold, and raffle tickets were sold. Then the audience took their seats. All the 450 seats were filled, and there were also many people sitting on the stairs.

Sung beautifully

The audience learned that the dementia choir at Randaberg had been rehearsing since September, and the choir with approximately 20 choristers performed songs such as “Vem kan segla förutan vind”, “No livnar det i lundar” and “De nære ting”. Here it was also accompanied by games on saw.

At times, choir conductors Merethe Rage Aasvold and Kristine Helgeland Mosdøl also joined the hall for the all-singing. It was great singing, and the audience responded with great applause.

After the concert, the conductors were warmly thanked for their efforts by the dementia association.

Touching about his sister with dementia

After the concert, library manager Sebastian Rafal Jazdzewski welcomed author Liv Holmen. Holmen has written the book “Til Kjersti- savner deg”, about his sister and popular actress Kjersti Holmen, who died of Alzheimer’s, aged just 65.

In conversation with Elisabeth Moe. specialist developer in Health and welfare in Randaberg municipality, Holmen told about how the disease affected both her sister and herself as relatives. She told, among other things, about the big difference in care the family experienced that Kjersti received in two different nursing homes.

Moe said that Holmen puts into words what it is like to be a relative of someone with dementia in a very good way, and Holmen read extracts from his book. There were some touching moments in which the hall was able to participate.

– Now I understand a little how Kjersti must have felt when she stood on a stage with so many people in front of her. I have never experienced this before. It is completely raw, said Liv Holmen to the assembly.

Liv Holmen writes in the book to her sister: “I hope that you understand how important it is to shed light on this disease, so taboo, how hard it is for relatives to see their loved ones disappear, how important it is that good care is given, that this is a disease that can affect any of us, that this book about you might make it less dangerous (…)”

Finally, a film from an exercise with DeKOR was shown, and information from the Randaberg Dementia Association was given.
