On Tuesday morning, the police received a report of an injured woman at Boots pharmacy in the center of Arendal. Large parts of the city center were cordoned off and the police appealed for witnesses.
Life-saving first aid was attempted, but life could not be saved.
The woman was employed at the pharmacy. Now the police believe that she was killed.
– No people are currently suspected or charged in the case. The perpetrator is still unknown to the police. Based on preliminary information, it cannot be ruled out that the deceased is an accidental victim. The police are working with full force to clarify this, says police attorney Vanja Bruvoll in a press release.
Raises preparedness
Chief of staff Vidar Arnesen in the Agder police district says that they have now raised the alert.
This involves temporary arming, according to VG’s information.
– At the present time, we do not know who the perpetrator is or what motives the perpetrator had. Therefore, we also have a limited basis for assessing the danger to the public, says Arnesen and continues:
– Agder police district has chosen to increase preparedness to ensure a faster response capability. This means that the police are present with more civilian and uniformed personnel in Agder and Arendal.
He asks the public to follow along and have a low threshold for contacting the police.
– We fully understand that this is a demanding situation. The case naturally has the highest priority for the police and is being investigated with all available resources, says Arnesen.
– A terrible tragedy
Police attorney Bruvoll says they have interviewed several witnesses. The police have also obtained video material which is being reviewed, at the same time they are going through investigations carried out at the scene.
– At the present time, we cannot comment on questions about any findings or seizures in the case, says Bruvoll.
The next of kin have been notified of the case, but currently do not want the woman’s name to be published.
– This is a terrible tragedy. Our focus now is to take care of those affected, relatives and employees, said managing director Kathrine Mehlin in Boots pharmacy in a statement to VG on Tuesday.
